He waited, his hands pressed tightly together against his chin, his eyes grazing the floor.
She paused outside the large wooden door of the sanctuary, smoothing the bodice of her lace dress with her fingers. Each of the tulle layers of the mermaid skirt lay neatly on top of the next. One soft curl hung loose from her chignon. Delicate diamond earrings and raspberry lipstick completed her look.
The door opened and she took one step and then another. Each step bringing her closer to him and to their future together.
Although he couldn’t see her yet, a smile spread across his face. And when he turned and held out his hands to her, tears formed in the corner of his eyes. He pulled her close, his arms wrapping around her back, her arms around his neck. Each of them breathing in this moment.
And then he took her hands as they stood together in the empty church and prayed. For their wedding to reflect the God’s glory, for His blessing on their marriage, for grace to love each other sacrificially, and for every day of their future together to be centered on Christ.
