Four Dates For $40

A couple weeks ago, I talked about my fear of missing out on life's best moments because I'm focused on the great big grand things that others are doing. About my fear of missing out on date nights, just because we can't afford a nice fancy dinner out every week. And I hinted about the introduction of a new date night blog series. And here's installment one!

This week's ideas aren't really anything special. But it's not about an awesome idea. It's about spending time with the person you love most in the world.

Date idea #1: The Virginia Aquarium

Cost: $31.50. Usually it's $42 for two people. We went during their Valentine's weekend BOGO 1/2 Off (follow their Facebook page to hear about their next deal - https://www.facebook.com/VirginiaAquarium)

Ryan loves aquariums, and this date night was all his idea. Even though we'd just been to an aquarium in Florida over our Christmas break, we enjoyed this date night a lot.

Date idea #2: Restaurant Fakeouts

Cost: $10. Obviously this depends on the recipe, but we purchased all the things in the first picture and still came out at half the cost of a dinner out.

Our version of PF Chang's lettuce wraps didn't taste quite as amazing as the real deal, but it was still yummy and we enjoyed making it together.

Date idea #3: Bike Ride and Picnic

Cost: FREE

Load up a meal in a bike basket or backpack and ride to the closest park. Most neighborhoods have some sort of park built around a playground or drainage pond. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Our pond happens to be home to a large family of ducks, which makes our visits pretty interesting.

Date idea #4: Strawberry Picking

Cost: About $8 for 4 pounds of berries.

Now is the perfect time for a berry picking date. It only took us about 20 minutes to pick 5 pounds worth. There are bright red berries everywhere you turn. The fields can get a bit muddy though, so don't wear your best clothes. I always go with something dark for fear I'll get little juicy finger marks on a cute new shirt.

That's all for this month! I'll be back soon with some more date night ideas!
