My mom isn't much of a baker, so growing up we always got a grocery store pie for Thanksgiving. And they're not bad. They're really not, but then you don't get the joy of smelling it while it bakes.
And a homemade crust leaves a store bought one in the dust any day.
So for the past few years, pie has been my department for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And I'm happy to oblige. I get to smell the pie while it bakes. And I get help to eat it so all that deliciousness doesn't go straight to my hips.
