When Wendy says goodbye to Peter at the end of their adventure, my heart is full of faith that they will soon be together again. That Peter will realize he can’t live without her and come back to the nursery window. That he will choose to grow old with her. To make their marriage his greatest and most wonderful adventure. Because true love is worth growing old for.
The hand painted invitation suite, designed around a watercolor map, invites guests to fly to Neverland for the marriage of Peter and Wendy. Phrases from the book are sprinkled throughout the stationery and other details.
Before pledging her love to Peter, Wendy slipped the acorn necklace around her neck. The very one that had saved her on that very first adventure. Guests gathered from London and Neverland and everywhere in between to watch the marriage, leaving notes and well wishes hanging on a nearby tree.
My inspiration for this shoot started with a rustic buttercream cake. I wanted the details to be rustic and earthy, with just a touch of whimsy. I wanted the details and tablescape to look like pieces that Peter had slowly gathered as he and the lost boys experienced adventures. But many details were collected by Wendy as well. The antique compote that belonged to her grandmother. The wildflowers that she gathered from the forest. The embroidery hoop and banner that she painstakingly sewed. And her painting of the forest where she and Peter had shared their first kiss.
